April 19 – 25 there are 6 topics, I let the one about Davinci Resolve be a little longer than I planned initially and a LOT of links with it.
1) Listening to:
Where I’m finding out about new music right now is mostly a few specific people on Bluesky.
- Noah Kahan, The Great Divide: The Last Of The Bugs
- TV Star, Music for Heads:
- The Milk Carton Kids, Lost Cause Lover Fool
- Gia Margaret, Singing
- Friko, Something Worth Waiting For, Seven Degrees
- Cadence Weapon, Forager
- Bel Cobain, Kizzy
2) Davinci Resolve added photo raw editing capabilities
I actually found out about this last week but hadn’t had time to do full tinkering:
While this doesn’t kill Adobe Lightroom for some people, this really helps me personally. It has a workflow that’s closer to what I need. I’m not a wedding photographer or someone with a photographic style. It IS still rather early so I expect it will actually improve. https://petapixel.com/2026/04/16/the-davinci-resolve-21-photo-editing-tools-show-promise-but-are-imperfect/
Full disclosure: I stopped using Lightroom when Adobe changed over to Lightroom Express & didn’t give me giant warnings about differences and what it might damage (there was a piece I had missed backing up so I lost everything I had done in Lightroom at that point just luckily I had copies of my original photos. I haven’t used it since because I started looking more at futureproofing.)
This article is fairly accurate especially with regard to Adobe’s focus on commercial clients and being willing to throw the designers & photographers under the bus: https://petapixel.com/2026/04/18/adobe-has-run-out-of-allies/
And Affinity integration I need to spend some time with too: https://petapixel.com/2026/04/16/capture-one-and-davinci-resolve-now-natively-support-affinity-files/
I have a Canva subscription, bought Affinity just before Canva bought them, and I still pay for an Adobe subscription. And yet I’m really just not in love with any of the major players at the moment. But Davinci … they’re doing a few things right:
- metadata
- file formats
- bring your own storage options
If Adobe ever messes with Illustrator & InDesign such that they destroy my workflows I will scream. But the fact that I think they will at some point is part of why I’m paying attention to other options.
Did we ask for this another storage option Adobe? I can’t back up Creative Cloud storage to my NAS … https://fstoppers.com/video-editing/adobe-announces-frameio-drive-streamline-video-sharing-among-creatives-901682
Differences Between Resolve and Studio:
3) Company bought / sold just to be compromised?
This IS specific to WordPress Plugins in this case but it’s an interesting idea that a company could be sold at some point and used as a way to use existing trust to compromise an entire system.
31 plugins compromised. This was a popular enough company that their logo was familiar to me (I didn’t any any of their plugins installed though.)
4) Google Workspace settings for AI – admin controls
This was something that annoyed me to no end when Google started rolling out Gemini which was complete lack of control over it.
They seem to have listened a bit and now there are settings for enabling / disabling AI in Google Workspace more granularly for administrators.

5) If you want a good overview of AtProto, Kuba posted his presentation slidedeck & it has some useful info:

6) I’m posting some on Grain.social
Because it’s currently like old school Instagram. You know, like mostly how it was before Meta bought it. It does have the stories component which was a later addition but it’s really focused on photography right now which is really pleasant.

If you decide to use it, keep in mind EVERYTHING you post there is public. Also built on AtProtocol.
