Notebooks & Writing

Turn a smaller notepad sideways and get double the size but more portable!

And you can start SUPER cheap (with some ideas for not taking and journaling.)

Still using the Boox …

I haven’t bought a mini keyboard / page turner but I kinda want it…

I’m pretty sure I could accomplish this for the Boox since I hooked up a keyboard and could turn pages with the arrow keys.

I DID try my bluetooth handheld trackball but that didn’t work for both forwards and backwards because it wanted to use the Boox default of turning up and down the volume.

(Hey BOOX, please let us remap the keys for the smart cases!
Why the heck are those buttons for volume?)

I realized that I want to work backwards from 2 main lenses the next time I buy a camera so I decided to brush up on understanding lenses & this was really useful:

A lot of thoughts on Podcasts this week:

I hadn’t really touched about 240 podcasts since early 2025 when they almost all started talking about current events & politics in a non-productive manner. I think about half of them ceased to exist entirely after 2024. But I think it’s time to rethink my workflow on those and start listening again.

In reviewing that list, I saw some things that had happened:

  1. People vibe coding their websites need to realize I’m losing podcasts because you aren’t doing podcasting implementation / rss right. Listeners/downloads WAY down? This might be why.
  2. A few seem to have availability on Spotify &/or Apple but then nothing for any other podcast/rss apps. The other thing I see is lack of redirects for new rss feed locations. Some of this is on the fact that they may have changed feed hosts & it wasn’t a url they control to begin with though.

Yes, I did have a good triaging system for that many podcasts, but I think I need to change things up and use an rss reader I already use + one of these for creating playlists of specific episodes that I then listen to in a player:

The player apps that have both import and export of OPML:

  • Overcast — iOS (export via web account) https://overcast.fm/
  • Podcast Guru — iOS, Android, macOS https://podcastguru.io/
  • Podverse — iOS, Android, Web https://podverse.fm/
  • Pocket Casts — iOS, Android, Web *warning, now owned by Automattic – I’m limiting my exposure to this company where I can
  • AntennaPod — Android
  • Podcast Addict — Android
  • Tsacdop — Android
  • Castro — iOS
  • Castamatic — iOS
  • gpodder — Linux, Windows, macOS
  • Pinepods — Linux, Windows, macOS, Web
  • Kasts — Linux

OPML is kinda like a csv file of data on what your subscriptions are & means you aren’t as tied to one thing. Currently using Feedly for rss and Overcast for podcast playing. Other podcasting resources (with links in the apps for the rest of the above): https://podcastindex.org/

Meanwhile, Spotify announced it will use Apple’s HLS technology to make video podcast publishing easier across both platforms. Win for video podcasts but potentially a problem for rss/3p apps:
